Sokhna Golf Club Claims Historic Egyptian Golf Cup Victory

By: Mohamed El-Dakhakhny

June 07, 2026

The EGF Golf Club Cup final delivered drama and excitement as Sokhna Golf Club stunned the experienced Alexandria Sporting Club to claim the prestigious title. Held at New Giza Golf Club for the first time on April 18.

The victory marked a historic milestone for Sokhna Golf Club, securing the Egypt Cup for the first time in the club’s history and becoming only the third club to lift the trophy, following Al Gezira Sporting Club, winners of the inaugural edition, and Madinaty Golf Club, champions of the second edition.

The championship showdown brought together two clubs with contrasting histories: Sokhna Golf Club, an emerging force in Egyptian golf, and Alexandria Sporting Club, one of the country’s most established teams with four league titles and one Super Cup crown to its name.

Sokhna entered the final full of confidence after an impressive semi-final victory over last year’s runner-up, Palm Hills. While that performance hinted at the club’s growing potential, few anticipated the composure and determination they would display on golf’s biggest domestic stage.

Alexandria Sporting Club initially looked poised to continue its winning tradition after taking the opening singles match. However, the momentum soon shifted dramatically.

Responding with resilience and focus, Sokhna Golf Club transformed early pressure into motivation. Showing remarkable composure under intense circumstances, the team claimed victory in three of the following singles matches through disciplined play, smart course management, and an ability to capitalise on crucial moments.

With Sokhna holding the advantage, attention turned to the decisive doubles matches, where tension across the course reached its peak. Rising to the occasion once again, Sokhna delivered a confident and commanding performance, securing the winning point on the 13th hole during one of the best-ball matches.

The victory gave Sokhna four wins from the seven scheduled matches, officially sealing the club’s first EGF Golf Club Cup triumph. With the result mathematically decided, the remaining two matches were suspended, bringing the competition to a close.

For Alexandria Sporting Club, the defeat marked a disappointing end to their campaign and denied them the opportunity to capture their first Egypt Cup title and add another trophy to their distinguished legacy.

Earlier the same day, Palm Hills secured third place after defeating Katameya Dunes in the playoff match, concluding their campaign on a positive note.

For Sokhna Golf Club, however, the occasion represented far more than a tournament victory. Defeating one of Egypt’s most decorated golf clubs signalled the arrival of a rising contender on the national stage and highlighted the club’s rapidly growing stature within Egyptian golf.

The triumph also earned Sokhna Golf Club qualification for the upcoming Egyptian Golf Super Cup, which is expected to feature the Egypt Cup champions against the league winners.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian Golf Federation, led by Omar Hisham Talaat, is preparing a major end-of-season celebration during the final round of the league, scheduled to take place on June 13 at Madinaty Golf Club, where the league shield, Egypt Cup trophy, and medals for the top three teams will be presented.
