Wadi Degla Continues Its Remarkable Success in Organizing the CIB PSA World Tour for the Fourth Year in a Row

Wadi Degla Clubs - the biggest private sports clubs in Egypt - organized the CIB PSA World Tour last June taking place in Cairo from Tuesday, June 21 to Sunday, June 26 at The Park - Mall of Arabia, in partnership with the Commercial International Bank ( CIB Egypt) and Marakez Real Estate Investment Company.

This comes in line with Wadi Degla Clubs’ strategy to organize world championships where the best international players can participate, and present an honorable image of Egyptian sports. It also gives the Egyptian players a chance to grow their talents by participating in competitions with multiple international schools, which ultimately contributes to their development to compete in continental and international championships.

Egyptian duo Nour El Sherbini and Mostafa Asal have been crowned the 2021-22 CIB PSA World Tour Finals champions. Five of Wadi Degla’s top-ranked squash players participated in the championship including Ali Farag, Mazen Hesham, Nouran Gohar, Hania El-Hamamy and Rowan Al-Araby and three of them were off to the semi-finals;  Ali Farag, Nouran Gohar and Hania El-Hamamy’s. After a fierce competition between two Wadi Degla players (Nouran Gohar and Hania El-Hammamy) in the Semis, World No.1 Nouran Gohar was the first into the finals after she pulled off a tough match with World No.3 Hania El-Hammamy.

Wadi Degla clubs have succeeded in developing the squash sport at a local and international level, by discovering Egyptian talents from different governorates and providing them with the best facilities, along with the latest training techniques they need to win local and international tournaments. In addition to organizing international tournaments that contribute to developing the players’ levels and maintaining their lead in the international squash rankings.

There were 16 participants from the top-ranked squash players worldwide in this competition, both men and women; Ali Farag, Paul Coll, Mohamed El-Shorbagy, Mostafa Asal, Diego Elias, Tarek Momen, Joel Makin, Mazen Hisham, Nouran Gohar, Nour El-Sherbini, Hania El-Hamammy, Amanda Sobhy, Joelle King, Sarah Jane Perry, Rowan Al-Araby and Salma Hany.

The CIB PSA World Tour is one of the platinum tournaments according to the classification of the International Federation, and the value of the prizes is 400,000 dollars, divided equally between men and women. The tournament includes eight of the best players in the world rankings.

The tournament was also attended by H.E Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, Tarek Rashed, CEO of Wadi Degla club CEO, Assem Khalifa ,President of the Egyptian Squash Federation, Lee Beachil, Chief Operating Officer of the PSA,Sherif Khalil, Chief Commercial Officer of CIB, Karim Darwish, Wadi Degla Squash Director and Vice President of the Word Squash Federation.

Organizing the CIB PSA World Tour for the fourth year in a row reflects Wadi Degla’s commitment to developing Egyptian sports in general, and squash in particular and demonstrates Egypt’s leadership in squash and its ability to host world-class international tournaments. In addition to Marakez’s efforts in providing a premium location and facilities at the highest level to present a tournament at such an upstanding level, meanwhile, the participation of some of the world's top squash athletes further strengthens the competition's position as one of the region's premier international tournaments.
